Shed Studios is a professional recording studio located in the sleepy Herefordshire village of Bodenham and is run by Jon Marsh. The studio has two main aims, firstly to help bands put together a CD to help promote themselves and get gigs. Secondly to work with more established bands to create a professional sounding CD with which to release (independently or through a label).
It also boasts two main recording sysytems - one digital, the other analogue.
Digital
The digital system is based around an Apple Macintosh G5 running Logic Pro 7 with MOTU, Focusrite, RME and SPL pre-amps, with a host of plugins from Native Instruments, PSP, Izotope, Apple, Pluggo, Solid State Logic, MDA, DFX, Waldorf, Garritan, Propellerheads and Spectrasonics.
Analogue
The analogue system is based around a Tascam MS16 tape machine, which is a 16 track machine running 1" tape - this particular machine was once owned by world renowned violinist Nigel Kennedy. I have a small stock of Quanety 456 tape (which is not made anymore).
Microphones include Beyer Dynamic, Rode, Shure, AKG and Blue. There is a Premier drum kit available for every band to use if they wish (snare and cymbals not included). The studio is equipped with a good selection of guitar and bass amplifiers and enough stomp boxes for you to find that killer sound you are after.
Jon's background is 19 months as live sound engineer for BBC radio show 'The Friday Session Introducing', this is backed up by qualifications in Sound Engineering (C+G), Music Technology (ND), Music Production (HND) and Sound Design (degree level).
